My First Experiences With Psychosis

I was 26 years old and married for 9 months when I had an aneurysm rupture in my brain while working out at the gym.

I spent a total of 9 weeks in the hospital and had 2 brain surgeries at the time. That was back in 1997. Since then, I have had 6 additional brain and spinal surgeries. The worst was when I had a golf ball sized cyst removed from my brain. I began having delusions and psychosis after that and it was scary because we didn't know what was going on.

I was hospitalized after a psychotic episode

I ended up in the psych ward of a hospital here I was in such bad shape. I remember telling my husband all the things I thought were happening but none of it was true. My husband is the best because he stood by me and helped in any way he could. I was a mess.

I found the right treatment

I am very grateful to the psych doctor who saved me. I was difficult at first and in denial about what was happening. It took a few months for me to realize that doctor was here to help me. I'm good now taking antipsychotic medication and seeing my doctor regularly. It was scary and upsetting at first but I'm good now.
